Ŋäthili baman gana nhinana wäŋa waṯaŋu maṉḏa yurru yäkunydja maṉḏa Gurrulun ga Girgirwa. Nhinan maṉḏa gana dhiyala Guräkŋura.
Long ago in the dreamtime there lived two ancestral beings brothers called Gurruḻan and Girgirwa.

Waŋganymirri waluy maṉḏa marrtjinana, ḏuwaṯthurruna bala djaḻumbuwnha. Maḻmaraŋala maṉḏa yiḏakinydja bala gulkthurruna.
One day they went out into the bush to look for a hollow tree. They found the hollow tree and chopped it down.

Gurrukaŋala maṉḏa marrtjina……… ga nhina maṉḏa ŋunhala Guräk'ŋura. Ŋir'yunmina maṉḏa ga go ŋali, ŋali warryuna bitjarra, ŋali maŋutji nhirrpana bitjarra maṉḏa waŋana.
They made a fire to burn the bark off and scraped the hollow tree to make it smooth.

Beŋurunydja maṉḏa ganydjarrnha ŋäkula, "Way dhikanydja litjalaŋgu nhaltjarra wäŋanydja". Bala maṉḏa waṉḏinana…… bala nhaŋalana ŋanya Wurraṉ'nhana ŋayi gana biḻparr ŋayathaŋala.
Suddenly they heard a strange noise coming from the soakage and wondered who could that be.

Bala maṉḏa waŋanhaminana "Way yol dhuwala yulŋunydja litjalaŋgu wäŋanydja bumara" ga bitjarra maṉḏa waŋana.
They hurried down to the saokage and to their surprise they saw a strange man.

Bala maṉḏa marrtjinana……. dharr nhaŋala molkurunha yolŋunha, bala dhä birrkayurruna bitjarra "Way, yol nhe dhuwala ga wanhaŋuru nhe dhuwala"
They went down to the lake to find out. They saw a man with a long stick and asked him where he comes from.

Ŋayinydja lakaranhamina bitjarra "Way dhay'yi ŋarra Dhaḻwaŋu bäpurru, ŋulaŋur dhay'yi ŋarra Gäṉgaṉ'ŋur gurrku yäkunydja ŋarra dhay'yi ga Burala.
The strange man answered and said "I come from the Dhaḻwaŋu tribe and my name is Buraḻa".

Bala ŋayi ŋurrkaŋalana biḻparrnytja, garrk, garrk, garrk, bitjarra ŋayi waŋana. Bala ŋayi wäŋanydja dhuwala yindithinana guḻundja.
Then he threw the long stick with the string into the air and made a strange noise "Garrk….garrk….garrk. and he threw it into the middle of the soakage.

Bala maṉḏa birrkayurruna gapunydja dhakay ḏamurruŋ warray ga lakaraŋalana wäŋanydja Gapuwiyak mayali dhäkay ḏamurruŋ.
Then up came the spring of water. lt filled the lake up and that's how the lake was made. The two brothers tasted the water and it was salty. So they name the place Gapuwiyak (meaning salty water).
